Slap Ya Mama Shrimp Boil

On our way out of Gulf Shores we picked up a couple pounds of Ruby Red Shrimp. Our friend could not stop raving about how Ruby Reds are the most delicious shrimp in the world.

Tonight we decided to make a shrimp boil with Slap Ya Mama Seasoning, baby red potatos and corn on the cob. It was absolutely delicious!! The boil had the perfect kick and the shrimp tasted like lobster. The Ruby Reds were the best shrimp I have ever tasted!! After searching online it looks like the only place you can get Ruby Red Shrimp is in Gulf Shores and surrounding beaches. If you make a trip to the shore this summer make sure to pack a few pounds to travel home.

Let the boil begin. You can grab a recipe off Slap Ya Mama’s website: http://slapyamama.com/

Hang Out

Three days ago I stepped into hippie and I loved every minute of it.  I am sad to be traveling back to reality with cell phone service, computers and work hanging over my head. We rocked out all weekend to Alabama Shakes, M. Ward, Paul Okenfold, Chris Cornell, Skrillex, Red Hot Chili Peppers and many more.  Enjoy pictures from my psychedelic weekend at the Hang Out Music Fest!

Urban pL8

Urban pL8 is not new to the westside foodie scene but it was news to me! I definitely dig healthy farm to table restaurants and I have found a new favorite to add to my list. Urban pL8 opened it’s doors in 2009 under the ownership of Betsy Pitts, former sous chef at famed Bacchanalia and Floataway Café.  Betsy’s vision:  “It’s about local, sustainable products, healthier options, and affordability. We love the challenge of creating delicious food that follows the paleo, gluten-free lifestyle.”

My co-worker, Marianne had been there and kept raving about her delicious and healthy experience.  We happened to be in the neighborhood yesterday and stopped by for a quick working lunch on the patio and I was more than pleased with everything they had to offer including the ambiance (casual westside hipster vibe), service and food.

The most popular dishes include: puerto rican beef lettuce wrap, asian beef salad, stir-fry brown rice and vegetables, paleo burger, turkey and black bean burger and red curry pan-seared tofu.

I 110% recommend checking out this trendy spot!

Charity Date Auction @ Tongue & Groove

The LLS Date Auction was started in 2011 by Cromwell Baun and Merrill Beckwith. Cromwell was nominated for Man of the Year and was given the challenge to raise $50,000 in TEN WEEKS!!!! We came up with the idea to have a date auction to raise money for Cromwell’s campaign and help him meet his $50,000 goal. We had men and women contestants, and we auctioned each of them off with a great date package. The event was a HUGE success and we raised more money than we ever expected!!

Due to the success of last year’s date auction, we were asked if we would be doing it again next year. As a result of all the requests for us to host the event again, we decided to make this event an annual event. All the money raised from this event will be donated to the 2012 Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Man and Woman of the Year fundraiser. The details for this year’s event are:

Date: Thursday, May 10, 2012
Time: 7 P.M. till 10 P.M. or until the last date is sold
Place: Tongue and Groove
565 Main Street NE
Atlanta, GA 30324

Avocado Salad

I was in the mood for a quick and healthy lunch today.  Here is what I am eating as we type!

Avocado Salad

  • 1 ripe avocado sliced
  • 10 pieces of chopped onion
  • 5 baby carrots chopped
  • 1 large mushroom sliced
  • 5 pea pods halved
  • A sprinkle of bacon bits (optional)
  • Half a lemon for squeezing

After you have chopped all your veggies squeeze the half of lemon over them and mix up. Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.

It is absolutely delish!

Raw Love Fashion Show

I am thrilled to be Co-Charing the second annual Raw Love Fashion Show benefiting Wish for Wendy on Wednesday April 25, 2012 from 7:00p.m.-9:00p.m. The star-studded event not only features Atlanta’s socialites and trendsetters walking the runway at Opera in Raw Denim to the beats of DJ Mad Flip but also highlights lines from Lady Couture and Luna-C.

The event is hosted by Trey Humphreys and Ace Emerson – a guaranteed
show stopping, inappropriate performance. The show will kick off with a vocal performance from New York City’s very own Chloe Cahill.

Donations of $15 are requested at the door. The donation goes directly to Wish for Wendy and gets you a Sinless Margarita, bites from Fig Jam (cold shrimp presentation, crudités of vegetables and dip, pork carnitas and tortellini with cheese in a cream sauce), delicious cupcakes from Sugar Lilly Bakery and of course a killer fashion show!

My D.C. Adventures

Marianne (my LS Partner in Crime) and I had the opportunity to go to Washington D.C. this weekend and work the LivingSocial Beer Fest! This weekend made me fall even more in love with my job. Even though we worked our butts off it was magical to step back and see thousands of people having the time of their lives. Some people say we just plan parties or events but we plan experiences that fill people’s lives with adventures and excitement. I am so grateful to be apart of such an amazing company and get to do what I love everyday.

I wanted to share some fun pictures from the weekend:
